Organizer(s):
Jim VanKirk (jrv1@cornell.edu)
John VanDyk (jvandyk@iastate.edu)

The following presentations are in this session:

8:00 AM - 8:20 AM What is RSS and Why is it Such a Breakthrough? John K VanDyk
    RSS has a controversial history but has recently emerged as the new standard for automated information exchange on the internet. RSS complements websites and is completely invisible to the user, making it a powerful technology for information aggregration and collaboration. This technology will affect the future of information technology in much the way HTML affected the growth of the world-wide web.

8:20 AM - 8:40 AM RSS: A User's Perspective Jim VanKirk [Download Presentation/Summary ]
    Someone who began using RSS in January 2003 shares his experiences, including finding and managing newsfeeds, installing software, and general reactions to RSS. As a manager of the RSS-enabled website IPM News, VanKirk is in a unique position to evaluate this technology.

8:40 AM - 9:00 AM How RSS Saves Time: an RSS Success Story David Detlefsen
    A case study in which RSS was used to provide a birds' eye view of multiple projects being carried out in different workgroups. Problems encountered, successes, and conclusions arrived at will be shared, as well as how the technology can positively affect those working with IPM information.

9:00 AM - 9:20 AM Implementing RSS Matt Westgate
    Targeted at webmasters and information mavens, this talk focuses on how to easily enable RSS support in your website, whether your website is created using PERL, Python, PHP, or an entirely different technology that may not begin with P.
