Contestants submit photographs of living insects or related arthropods to the Publications Committee prior to the banquet and a team of judges selects the top five photographs in each of four predetermined categories. The photographs selected by the judging team are shown at the banquet and those in attendance vote for the best photograph in each category and also vote for one photograph as the Best in Show. Those individuals submitting the winning photographs receive a certificate of recognition from the Society. With permission of the photographers, the winning photographs are placed on the Society's web page.
