Alias: Lady bugs, ladybird beetles

Identifying marks: Adults are red, orange, or tan usually with tattooed black spots on wing covers. Larvae disguised as tiny alligator and generally black with orange markings.

Wanted for: Attacking aphids, mites, insect eggs, and small insects.

This predator can eat its own weight in aphids in a single day. Often seen in fields and gardens.

Reward: Aphid-free roses and vegetables.
